Spirit Airlines abruptly ceased operations last week after years of financial struggles, including two bankruptcies, high fuel prices, and a failed government bailout. This left 91 of its 114 aircraft grounded across 26 airports, with a company called Nomadic Aviation Group now ferrying many of these planes to desert storage facilities in Arizona. Former Spirit pilots are being hired to fly these repossessed aircraft, which are expected to be refurbished and eventually re-enter service with other airlines.
